Winter at the port reveals a different dimension of logistics. Low temperatures, winds coming off the Oder River, frost-covered quays, and vessels wrapped in morning mist create a unique landscape - but for the team at Bulk Cargo - Port Szczecin, it is above all a time of intensive and responsible work.
Handling bulk cargo in winter conditions requires:Regardless of the weather, port operations continue without interruption. Every loading and unloading process is the result of people’s commitment, experience, and well-planned procedures. Winter highlights how essential flexibility and 24/7 operational readiness are in the port industry. These are the moments when the strength of the team and the value of true cooperation become most visible.
At the Bulk Cargo - Port Szczecin, the handling of steel billets is currently underway - a semi-finished product that marks the starting point for many components used in construction, industry and infrastructure. The operation includes vessel discharge, storage and preparation of the cargo for further transport, which will be carried out via inland waterways to Germany.
The works are carried out using port infrastructure and handling equipment adapted for heavy steel products, in accordance with applicable procedures and safety standards.

Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) visited our Bulk Cargo Port Szczecin, filming for the documentary series “Expedition Oder.” The program offers a behind-the-scenes look at our operations and presents the terminal as a modern, dynamic, and highly versatile location - exactly reflecting the strengths of our Polish operations.
A special highlight of the filming was RBB’s iconic sky-blue Robur bus, which the crew used to explore the port area. This made it possible to capture unique footage that is rarely accessible to the public. All the more interesting given that Bulk Cargo has only recently become part of the Rhenus division.
The first part of the documentary, lasting 90 minutes, will be broadcast on RBB on December 17 at 8:15 p.m. The second, 45-minute episode will follow on December 30 at 6:40 p.m. Both parts will also be available in the ARD media library.
At Bulk Cargo - Port Szczecin, we believe the future of maritime transport lies in collaboration, innovation, and efficiency.
The forum is the perfect place to turn these ideas into real projects and connect with the people shaping the industry.
We’re in Gdynia today for one of Poland’s key maritime industry events - the Maritime Economy Forum.
We’re discussing the future of multimodal transport, port development, and new directions in maritime logistics.
Proud to be part of the conversation shaping a modern and sustainable maritime economy.
At our port, by the Katowickie Quay, a truly special event took place – the ceremonial christening of a new barge. This was a remarkable moment not only for the shipowner Deutsche Binnenreederei, but also for the entire port and inland shipping community.
The new vessel was created by joining three inland ships into a single pushed barge with impressive parameters:
🔹 total length – 100 meters,
🔹 width – 9.5 meters,
🔹 hold length – 91.5 meters.
Thanks to these solutions, the unit perfectly matches the capabilities of inland navigation. The barge will be dedicated to transporting wind turbine blades, which is a great example of how flexible approaches and the use of existing resources can create completely new transport opportunities.
The christening was not only a beautiful ceremony, but also proof that inland navigation remains an important and forward-looking element of transport in Europe, with Bulk Cargo playing a key role in its development.
Our sincere thanks go to everyone and every institution involved in this endeavor, as well as to the participants of the ceremony.
It is thanks to our joint effort that we were able to witness such an important moment.
At Bulk Cargo - Port Szczecin, we handled a vessel carrying a cargo of palm kernel shells (PKS) with a total weight of 42,150 tons. This marks the largest transshipment operation in our history.
PKS is a biofuel used in:
🔥 energy sector – as an alternative energy source in power plants and heating plants,
🌱 sustainable industry – in renewable energy production,
🌍 green logistics – as a component in fuel blends.
Thanks to the modernized Katowickie Quay, with an operational depth of 11 m, we are ready to accommodate large-tonnage vessels and carry out operations at the highest level of efficiency.
Port Szczecin is strengthening its position as a key hub in the European biofuel supply chain.
At Chorzowskie Quay, we successfully carried out the efficient handling of a vessel carrying over 10,000 tons of aluminum.
This is yet another proof of our terminal’s capability and efficiency in managing large volumes of strategic raw materials for industry.
Chorzowskie Quay – where scale meets quality.
Aluminum is a cornerstone of the modern economy – essential in construction, automotive, and energy sectors.
